  • December 26, 2013 - Alaska Governor Parnell has ordered all state flags lowered to half-staff on Thursday, December 26, 2013, in honor of former Representative Richard “Dick” Greuel who passed away earlier this month in Minnesota at the age of 85.
  • December 20, 2013 - Arizona Governor Brewer has ordered all flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Friday, December 20, 2013 in honor of United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Two Joshua B. Silverman of Scottsdale, Arizona who died along with five other soldiers in a helicopter crash on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Now Bahar, Afghanistan. All Individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • December 19, 2013 - New York Governor Cuomo has ordered flags to half-staff on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in honor of New York State Police Trooper David W. Cunniff who died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident that happened on the New York State Thruway.
  • December 14, 2013 - Connecticut Governor Malloy has ordered all flags lowered to half-staff on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in honor of the 20 children and six adults who were victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT on December 14, 2013.
  • December 14, 2013 - Wyoming Governor Mead has ordered the State of Wyoming flag to be flown at half-staff at the Capitol in Cheyenne and in Platte County from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, December 14, 2013, in honor of former State Senator Donald Cundall of Guersney who passed away. Mr. Cundall served as the Senator for Platte County from 1973-1988.

  • December 6, 2013 - Alaska Governor Parnell has ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff on Friday, December 6, 2013 in honor of Judge James von der Heydt who died at the age of 94 on December 1, 2013. Judge von der Heydt was appointed to the position of U.S. District Judge for the District of Alaska in 1966 and held that position until retirement in 1994.
  • December 5, 2013 - South Carolina Governor Haley has requested that flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday, December 5, 2013 in memory of Florence County Deputy Joseph Antwine who died in the line of duty from injuries sustained in a single car crash on November 22, 2013.
  • November 14, 2013 - Kansas Governor Brownback has ordered the flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, November 14, 2013 in honor of Sergeant First Class Forrest W. Robertson who died on November 3, 2013 of injuries sustained in Lognar Province, Afghanistan.
  • November 14, 2013 - Alaska Governor Parnell has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, November 14, 2013 in honor of former state legislator Elton Engstrom, Jr who died last Wednesday, at the age of 78. Engstrom served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1965 – 1967 and the Alaska Senate from 1967 – 1971.
  • November 12, 2013 - Maryland Governor O’Malley has ordered the Maryland State flag be lowered to half-staff immediately, Tuesday, November 12, 2013 until sunset on Saturday, November 16, 2013 in honor of Firefighter David R. Barr Jr., a 13 year veteran of the Perryville Community Fire Company who died on November 7, 2013 in the line of duty.
  • November 6, 2013 - Massachusetts Governor Patrick has ordered the United States and Commonwealth flag lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in honor of S/Sergeant Brett Carnathan of Rockland.
  • November 2, 2013 - Virginia Governor McDonnell has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia lowered to half-staff over the state Capitol building on Saturday, November 2, 2013 in honor of United States Army Staff Sergeant Lyle D. Turnbull. It is encouraged that the flags be flown at half-staff at all buildings and grounds in the City of Norfolk in memory of Staff Sergeant Turnbull.

  • October 18, 2013 - Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has ordered all United States and Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities in Lackawanna County to half-staff on Friday, October 18, 2013 in honor of United States Army Air Force First Lt. Robert G. Fenstermacher who was killed in action in World War II. His remains were recently identified and are being buried in Arlington. All individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • October 17, 2013 - Alaska Governor Parnell has ordered State flags to be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, October 17, 2013, in honor of former Alaska Representative Joe Montgomery who died on October 5, 2013. He was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives, serving form 1980 to 1984.
  • October 15, 2013 - Kentucky Governor Beshear has ordered all flags at state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in honor of Fort Campbell soldier Staff Sergeant Thomas A. Baysore, Jr. of Milton, Pennsylvania who died on September 26, 2013 in Paktya Province, Afghanistan. All individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • October 12, 2013 - Minnesota Governor Dayton has ordered all flags lowered to half-staff at all state and federal buildings in Minnesota from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, October 12, 2013 in honor of Corporal Harold A. Evans who was reported missing in action on December 12, 1950 while serving in the United States Army in the Korean War. His remains was recovered from North Korea in the early 1990’s and identified in September 2013. His interment with full military honors will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
  • October 10, 2013 - New Jersey Governor Christie has directed the flag of the United States of America and the flag of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff at all state departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities from Thursday, October 10, 2013 through Thursday, October 17, 2013 in honor of United States Army Staff Master Sergeant Nicholas Oresko who passed away on October 4, 2013. On October 30, 1945, President Harry Truman formally awarded Master Sergeant Oresko the Medal of Honor, and in January 2011, Oresko became the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient.
  • October 5, 2013 - Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has ordered all United States and Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities in Northumberland County lowered to half-staff on Saturday, October 5, 2013 in honor of Staff Sergeant Thomas A. Baysore Jr, who died in Afghanistan on September 26, 2013. All Pennsylvanians are authorized to join in this tribute.
  • October 4, 2013 - New Jersey Governor Christie has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the flag of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities on Friday, October 4, 2013 in honor of United States Army Staff Sergeant Timothy R. McGill of Ramsey, New Jersey who died recently in Afghanistan.

Gibson of Aurora, who died on September 22, 2013 as a result of an MH-60s Knighthawk crash while operating in the central Red Sea.
  • September 21, 2013 - West Virginia Governor Tomblin has ordered all U.S. and West Virginia State flags lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, September 21, 2013 in honor of United States Army Pfc. Ronald C. Huffman of Lashmeet, W.VA who went missing in action on February 12, 1951 near Saemul, South Korea who was not identified until August 13, 2013.
  • September 21, 2013 - Minnesota Governor Dayton has ordered flags to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, September 21, 2013 in honor of Justice Rosalie Wahl who served as Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1977-1944.

Sizemore of Lawrenceville, Illinois who was recently identified after crashing on July 8, 1969 while piloting an A-26 Invader in Laos.

  • August 31, 2013 - Oregon Governor Kitzhaber has ordered all flags at public institutions to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, August 31, 2013 in honor of Firefighter Oscar Montano-Garcia who died while working the Nabob Fire just south of Applegate Lake.
  • August 30, 2013 - Illinois Governor Quinn has ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff immediately, Friday, August 30, 2013 until sunset on Saturday, August 31, 2013 in honor of United States Korean War Veteran Corporal Donald MacLean who was lost on December 2, 1950 near the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. His remains were identified on May 22, 2013.

  • July 29, 2013 - Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has directed that all Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities throughout the state are to be lowered to half-staff immediately, July 29, 2013 in honor of Governor William Scranton, who passed away on July 28, 2013. Senator Hanes served Laramie County in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1993 to 1998 and the Wyoming Senate from 1999 to 2006.
  • July 24, 2013 - Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has ordered all Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities in Lebanon County lowered to half-staff immediately, July 24, 2013 until sunset on Friday, July 26, 2013 in honor of Quentin Volunteer Firefighter Bruce L. Sensenig who died in the line of duty on Monday, July 22, 2013.
  • July 21, 2013 - West Virginia Governor Tomblin has ordered all U.S. and State flags at all state-owned facilities to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, July 21, 2013, the day of services for Sgt. Jerome Elwood Kiger. The Mannington, West Virginia native enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Kiger was declared Missing in Action following the crash of his B-24 Liberator in Germany and, in 1945; he was declared Killed in Action though his remains and the crash site had not been located. In 2008 both Kiger's remains and the crash site were located. "Sixty-nine years ago, Sergeant Kiger made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, and today we honor his heroic actions as his remains are returned to American soil.

  • March 11, 2013 - New Jersey Governor Christie has ordered the flag of the United States of America and the state flag of New Jersey lowered to half-staff at all state departments, agencies, offices, and instrumentalities on Monday, March 11, 2013 in honor of the passing of former Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly and former Attorney General of New Jersey, William F. Hyland.
  • March 8, 2013 - Illinois Governor Quinn has ordered the United States and Illinois flags lowered to half-staff from sunrise, Saturday, March 9, 2013 until sunset, Monday, March, 11, 2013 in honor of Christopher Brown of the Hudson Fire Protection District.
  • March 7, 2013 - Delaware Governor Markell has ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff from sunrise, Thursday, March 7, 2013 until the start of business on Monday, March 11, 2013 in honor of Judge Williams, the state’s fifth African-American attorney and one of the first black students to integrate the University of Delaware, served as Municipal Court Judge from 1966 to 1988. He passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 and his services are scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2013.
  • March 5, 2013 - Illinois Governor Quinn has ordered the United States and Illinois flags lowered to half-staff immediately, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 until sunset on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in honor of Dawn Clark Netch , the first woman to be nominated by a major political party to run for Governor of Illinois who passed away on March 5, 2013.
  • March 2, 2013 - Arizona Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be flown at half-staff on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in honor Staff Sergeant Jonathan D. Davis of Kayenta, Arizona who died on February 22, 2013 in Helmand province, Afghanistan. All individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • February 28, 2013 - Delaware Governor has ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff from Thursday, February 28, 2013 until the beginning of business on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in honor of former Delaware Lieutenant Governor Gene Bookhammer. Mr. Bookhammer served as Delaware’s Lt. Governor from 1969 to 1977.
  • February 27, 2013 - Virginia Governor McDonnell has ordered the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be flown at half-staff over the state Capitol building from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in memory of Former State Delegate Clifton “Chip” A. Woodrum. It is encouraged that the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff at all building and grounds in the County of Roanoke, the City of Roanoke and in any other locality deemed appropriate.
  • February 27, 2013 - Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has ordered all Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol Complex and at Commonwealth facilities in Luzerne County to be flown at half-staff immediately Wednesday, February 27, 2013, until further notice in honor of Officer Eric Williams, a Correctional Officer who was killed while performing his duties at Canaan Federal Penitentiary on Monday evening.
  • February 25, 2013 - Maryland Governor O’Malley has ordered the Maryland State flag to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in honor of Former Delegate Charles Stokes Kolodziejski who died on February 21, 2013. Kolodziejski represented District 31 in Anne Arundel County from 1983 through 1994.

  • February 21, 2013 - Virginia Governor McDonnell has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia lowered to half-staff over the state Capitol building from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in honor of South Boston Mayor Carroll Thackston, retired U.S. Army Major General and former Adjutant General of the Virginia National Guard. It is encouraged that all flags in the the Town of South Boston be flown at half-staff.
  • February 20, 2013 - Oklahoma Governor Fallin has ordered all American and Oklahoma flags on State property to be flown at half-staff from 8:00am until 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in honor of former Representative Kenneth "Ken" Nance, who passed away on February 14, 2013.
  • February 19, 2013 - Massachusetts Governor Patrick has ordered the United States flag and Commonwealth flag to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 on all state buildings in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Greene of Mansfield who died on February 10, 2013.
  • February 15, 2013 - Oklahoma Governor Fallin has ordered all American and Oklahoma flags on State property to be flown at half-staff from 8:00am until 5:00pm on Friday, February 15, 2013 to honor former State Senator Jimmy Birdsong, who passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
  • February 12, 2013 - Massachusetts Governor Patrick has ordered the United States flag and Commonwealth flag lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in honor of PFC Michael A. Gorman of Brookline who died on February 5, 2013.
  • February 8, 2013 - Michigan Governor Snyder has ordered United States flags within the state Capitol Complex to be lowered to half-staff through Monday, February 11, 2013, in honor of former state Sen. George Hart, of Dearborn, who died on January 31, 2013. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. All individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • February 8 2013, Virginia Governor McDonnell has ordered that the flags of the United States of America and Commonwealth of Virginia are to be flown at half-staff over the state Capitol building from sunrise to sunset on Friday, February 8, 2013 in memory of United States Army Sergeant Aaron X. Wittman. Wittman.

  • February 7, 2013 - Michigan Governor Snyder has ordered U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff within the state Capitol Complex and at state buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout Michigan on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in honor of Sgt. Mark Schoonhoven, of Fort Carson, Colorado, formerly of Plainwell, Michigan. Sgt. Schoonhoven, 38, died on January 20, 2013 at Brooke Army Medical Center in Houston, Texas from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device on December 15, 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan. All individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.
  • February 6, 2013 - Delaware Governor Markell has ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff beginning the morning of Wednesday, February 6, 2013 until the close of business on Thursday, February 7, 2013 as a mark of respect of Delaware National Guard Adjutant General Arthur Episcopo who served as Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard – the highest ranking military position in Delaware from 1989 to 1993. 
  • February 3, 2013 - In observance of the 70th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the United States Army transport Dorchester off the coast of Greenland, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all U.S. and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, February 3, 2013. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to lower their flags in observance of the anniversary on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at the time of their choosing.
  • January 29, 2013 - Maryland Governor O’Malley has ordered the Maryland State flag lowered to half-staff immediately, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in honor of Delegate Hattie Harrison who died yesterday. Delegate Harrison represented District 45 in Baltimore City since 1973. The flag shall continue to be flown until sunset on the day of interment; dailyflagstatus.com will notify you when to return the flag back to full-staff.
  • January 28, 2013 - Virginia Governor McDonnell has ordered the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be flown at half-staff at all buildings in grounds throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia until Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in honor of former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, Harry Lee Carrico.
  • January 24, 2013 - Massachusetts Governor Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in honor of Sergeant First Class Michael J. Squillaci of Uxbridge who died on January 16, 2013.
  • January 22, 2013 - Oklahoma Governor Fallin has ordered all American and Oklahoma flags on State property to be flown at half-staff from 8:00am until 5:00pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in honor of Retired Justice Ralph B. Hodges, who passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013.
  • January 18, 2013 - Massachusetts Governor Patrick has ordered the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag to be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Friday, January 18, 2013 in honor of Pfc. Antonio Syrakos of Lynn who died on January 10, 2013.
  • January 14, 2013 - North Carolina Governor McCrory has ordered all North Carolina State flags on state facilities to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, January 14, 2013 in honor of Senator Jean Preston who passed away last Thursday.
  • January 11, 2013 - Oklahoma Governor Fallin has ordered all American and Oklahoma flags to be flown at half-staff from 5:00pm on Friday, January 11, 2013 until 8:00am on Monday, January 14, 2013 in honor of Joe Steven Stokes, Director of the Office of Disability Concerns who passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
  • January 5, 2013 - Wyoming Governor Mead has ordered the State of Wyoming flag be flown at half-staff at the Capitol in Cheyenne and in Converse County from sunrise to sunset on Friday, January 11, 2013 in honor of State Representative Dave Edwards, who passed away January 5, 2013.
